Do it Yourself Websites
Overcoming the start "jet lag"
An introduction and thinking about the problem at hand. The biggest problem in getting something going online - is to get started in the first place.
the notion of the web being "free" has led to an army of students of html, css, javascript and whatever technology is here to offer help in our favorite bookstores.
I have spend a fortune in books.
Over the years, I have spend the value of a little sportscar in domains and technology. I was bleeding - for the better of all of us, i wanted to figure out how this stuff works and keeps working along the way.
Welcome, my new friend!
Problem is, in spite of the promises, it is not easy. Taking one path excludes others and it takes something, to figure what works and what works together - and what will work in the future.
It takes determination, in my case turned into obsession, turned into "the call" to solve this thing.
It is sad, to know, that thousands of people, good people go through the same cumbersome process, most without a chance of succeeding. compromise will be the answer, at one point in time. rationalizing. What a terrible waste of human brain cycles that is. In my mind, it is software that owes us to do the extremely repetitive tasks and processes. We need to remember what matters and focus on progress - reaching the goal as fast as we can.
I love real time. Everything i do and think is gravitating towards real time (or faster).
Back to basics is the "call to action". Simplicity first, i like to pray.
Making a website work, under all circumstances and during growth, is complex and kind of difficult, in any case, it takes a lot of time and is eating significantly into our budgets - not speaking of the delay in execution and testing of our ideas.
The free approach comes with tons of headaches and most of the times, our good will in offering something of value online is burried in technological frustrations and hassle.
I was tired with this situation and decided to do something about it - for all of us:
The Super Secret Software Project was born
I have learned programming in 82, at the age of 12. from a manual. without a computer. that was a lot of fun when meeting with friends to test this new hobby of ours on a shared computer! We´ve played a lot.
I have been thinking about better design software since the early 90ies during the desktop publishing revolution. I have turned into commercial video production during the digital video revolution in the later 90ies.
Around 95, the web came along. Slow, inflexible and nothing up to par with desktop design or video. As most of us around in that time - I loved the web! And i hated its form!
Waiting for a software tool to emerge and nothing satisfactory coming along, in 2004 i decided to take matters into my own hands.
The active work on the "Super Secret Software (TM)" started in 2004 and since then, i am constantly creating code, testing, throwing away and redo things in improved ways. the platform is being advanced and optimized, to solve our online problems.
With The SuperSecretSoftware, building websites is quite easy.
it works by creating the content outline, the structure and the website is literally build in the background.
this is a favorite approach, since the design can be applied on top of the content and changed at any time.
think: sculpting. starting with some source material and giving it shape.
the advantage over sculpting is, that everything is changable at any time. colors, font families, layout.
it is fast, when using the provided assistants or the preconfigured template chooser.
it is flexible when using the custom settings.
its nice. in any case.
and to my knowledge, no one has ever approached building websites in the way the super secret software does.
